The Iconic Puzzle Game Couldn't Triumph at The Game Awards — An Additional Classification Could Fix That

Each time a prominent prize-giving event nears, one notices a clamor for the addition additional classifications to honor unsung work and fill the spirits of followers with niche passions.

My colleague made the case supporting a scary games classification. That would rule. Equally deserving are tabletop games, representing a passionate advocate's mission. But they will have to forgive me when I prioritize just as with other dedicated enthusiasts, there's a strong justification supporting my request stands as crucial above others. The demand is this: We need an award type for logic-based games.

Categorizing Game Types

Organizing artistic expressions isn't exact; it’s very subjective, and typically generate discussions concluding with vague boundaries. There’s a reason movie academies steer clear of genre categories. Yet it remains an essential concession in the world of video games, showing incredible range it's challenging to consider them as a single art form.

For the full spectrum of gaming accomplishments to gain proper attention, and for games of all stripes to compete fairly, classification by type becomes crucial.

Present Award Structure

Leading game ceremonies presently include genre categories for Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Between them, these classifications effectively encompass numerous genres, allowing placement accommodating various experiences.

Different situation exists for puzzle games. There’s simply nowhere to accommodate them. Think about these this year’s best games, all very different: structural challenges of one title, the pulse-pounding block-matching from another release, engaging interpersonal challenges in another game. Where could they possibly go within current classifications? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Recognition Challenges

Many instances occur outstanding logic titles launched regularly without proper recognition in entertainment awards, unless they happen to qualify for categories like Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging Indie races.

  • A renowned logic title received no recognition for anything that year
  • A different innovative game missed out during that ceremony
  • Popular arranging title got ignored recently
  • Only a few puzzle games barely qualified for independent or mobile categories

Importance of Logic Titles

Frequently they represent compact experiences, however the design behind logic titles carries substantial weight. Iconic mobile puzzle games count as most popular titles in the world continuing this trend for over a decade.

The legendary block-stacking game challenges well-known building titles claiming status as most purchased experience; it’s also in the running as greatest title ever. Puzzle games are foundational for gaming as medium, and engaging with almost every other genre.

The Solution and Justification

Puzzle games wouldn’t have this problem. It would be easy to populate five nominees with fascinating, diverse, deserving games each ceremony simply — or rather, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave many worthy titles.

And to reiterate, these represent titles that otherwise have no home at major gaming awards. Logic title developers function at the hard edge game development, developing some of the purest expressions within interactive entertainment. Comparable to movie stunt professionals, they merit acknowledgment. We shouldn't delay generations.
